GLAMPING

We don’t just market the idea of glamping for the Resort at Paws Up. The founder of Dog Can Hunt actually invented glamping in 2004, and even coined the phrase. The vision was to recapture the exploratory fervor of the Lewis & Clark period, in a way that was equally rugged as it was luxurious. In all, Paws Up’s luxury camping offerings include six camps and 36 tents today. And visitors from all over the world continue to arrive every season to experience Montana, as it was meant to be.

In 2003, Dog Can Hunt founder and Resort at Paws Up co-owner, Larry Lipson (aka: The Godfather of Glamping) was inspired by the classic safari tents used in Africa and aimed to recreate a similar “luxury camping” experience in Montana, thereby pioneering the concept of an ‘American Safari’. Larry believed that one did not need to traverse the globe to witness extraordinary wildlife and spectacular landscapes—it was all waiting to be discovered in Montana.

In 2004, Lipson introduced the concept of luxury camping at the Resort at Paws Up. The first camp, tent city, was sold out in its first summer. The novelty of this experience warranted a catchy name that resonated with the essence of luxury and wilderness. Lipson conjured a perfect blend of the words ‘glamorous’ and ‘camping’, coining and trademarking the now globally recognized term “Glamping”.
